Terms of Use

The rules for using ChessPigeon, written to be read. They cover the analysis board, shared lessons and online games.

About these terms

These terms apply when you use ChessPigeon at chesspigeon.app. ChessPigeon is provided by an individual operating as ChessPigeon (“we”). By using ChessPigeon you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. You must be at least 13 to use ChessPigeon on your own; younger players can join lessons set up by a coach, teacher or parent. The privacy policy explains how data is handled.

The service

  • ChessPigeon offers chess game analysis, a game library stored in your browser, shared Classroom lessons and games against the computer or a friend.
  • It is free to use.
  • Engine analysis runs in your browser. Evaluations, accuracy figures and move labels are estimates for study, not authoritative judgements, and may differ from other services.

Acceptable use

Please use ChessPigeon the way you would use a shared chess club. You agree not to:

  • harass, threaten or abuse other people, including in lesson chat, display names or game aliases;
  • post unlawful content, or personal information about others without permission;
  • access a lesson or game without a valid invitation, or try to get around access controls;
  • scrape, bulk-download or flood the service with automated requests, or try to get around its request limits;
  • interfere with the service's security, or with other people's use of it;
  • use ChessPigeon to break the rules of a competition or another platform, for example by consulting the engine during a rated game.

Lessons and invitations

Classroom and Play invitations work like keys: anyone with the link can join. Display names are not verified. Coaches decide who receives a link and are responsible for sharing it only with the people they intend to teach, and for obtaining any permission needed to teach children. Only share invitation links privately.

Lesson chat and board content are visible to everyone in the lesson. The coach controls permissions and can end the lesson for everyone.

Your games and content

You retain any rights you hold in the games, notes and messages you create or import. Importing content does not transfer anyone else's rights to you. You give us permission, to the extent you can grant it, to store, transmit and display that content only as needed to provide ChessPigeon to you and the people you share it with, for example to show a lesson board to its participants. Only bring in games and content you have the right to use.

Your game library lives in your browser. Clearing browser data deletes it, so keep your own backups by exporting PGN files. We cannot recover games stored only on your device.

Third-party data

Chess.com imports use Chess.com's public game data and are subject to Chess.com's own terms. ChessPigeon is not affiliated with Chess.com, and usernames you search are not verified as yours.

Third-party software and artwork remain subject to their respective licences. These terms do not restrict rights those licences grant you. See Third-Party Notices for attribution and licensing information.

Limits

  • A Classroom lesson lasts at most six hours from creation and holds up to 50 participants, 50 games and 500 KB of PGN.
  • An import can contain up to 500 games and 5 MB.
  • Requests are rate-limited to protect the service; heavy use may be slowed down temporarily.

Limits may change as the service develops.

Availability and no warranty

ChessPigeon is offered as it is. We work to keep it running and correct, but we cannot promise that it will always be available, free of errors or suitable for a particular purpose, or that lessons and online games will never be interrupted. Features may change or be withdrawn. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the law that cannot be limited.

Restricting access

We may remove content, end lessons or games, or block access when these terms are broken, when it is needed to protect other users or the service, or when the law requires it.

Changes

We may update these terms as ChessPigeon changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use ChessPigeon after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Polish law. This choice does not remove any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live or restrict your right to bring a claim before a court available to you under applicable law.
