Saving Games and Where Your Data Lives
Save a game
- With a game open in Analysis, select the disk icon (Save game) in the Game review card.
- The tooltip changes to Saved! and the game appears in My games.
Games you import are added to My games automatically. Games you play in Play and lessons in Classroom have their own save buttons.
Saving is not the same as restoring
If you reload the page, ChessPigeon restores the game you were looking at, including your variations and review. This restoration belongs to the current browser tab only: it survives a reload, but not closing the tab or the browser, and a new tab starts fresh.
Find games in My games
- Open Games in the sidebar (or press G) to see My games, grouped by day.
- Search by player names, openings and other game details with Search players, openings…. Moves are not searched.
- Filter with All, Wins, Losses, vs Computer and Imported. Wins and Losses include your saved games against the computer and friends.
- Select Load more games for older games.
Where your data lives
| What | Where it's kept | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Saved and imported games | This browser on this device | Until you delete them or clear the site's data |
| The game open in a tab | That browser tab | Until the tab is closed |
| Completed reviews | This browser on this device | Older reviews are replaced by newer ones |
| Settings and preferences | This browser on this device | Until you reset or clear them |
| Share links | Inside the link itself | Nothing is uploaded; the link is the copy |
| Classroom lessons | ChessPigeon's servers | While the lesson runs, at most six hours, then removed |
| Online games with a friend | ChessPigeon's servers | Removed about 24 hours after the game finishes |
| Games against the computer | Your browser; Stockfish runs on your device | Until you save or close them |
The privacy policy lists every type of data in full.
Keep a backup
Because saved games live in your browser, they can disappear if you:
- clear this site's data, cookies or browsing history in your browser settings,
- use a private or incognito window and close it,
- switch to another browser or device (each one has its own separate library).
To keep a portable backup, open a game and select Export game → PGN. PGN files open in ChessPigeon and in almost any other chess software. More about exporting.
Accounts and sync
Account sign-in isn't available yet. Your library stays on the device where you saved it. To move games to another device, export them as PGN and import them there.
